COMMUNITY SERVICE ORDERS ACT 1979 - REGULATION
(Relating to the maximum number of hours of
community service work)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Community Service Orders Act 1979, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

Commencement
1. This Regulation takes effect on the commencement of Schedule 1 (1) to the Community Service Orders (Amendment) Act 1989.
Amendment
2. The Community Service Orders Regulation 1988 is amended by omitting from clause 5 (c) the matter "300" and by inserting instead the matter “500”.
Transitional provision
3. The amendment made by this Regulation applies in respect of a person sentenced after the Commencement of this Regulation, whether the person committed or is convicted of the offence concerned before or after that commencement.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
The object of this Regulation is to amend the Community Service Orders Regulation 1988 to increase, from 300 to 500, the maximum number of hours of community service work that a court may require an offender to perform in respect of an offence for which the maximum term of imprisonment exceeds 1 year. The amendment is consequential on the Community Service Orders (Amendment) Act 1989.
