PROVISIONAL REGULATION UNDER THE COMMONWEALTH PUBLIC SERVICE ACT 1902.

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby certify that, on account of urgency, the following Regulation under the Commonwealth Public Service Act 1902 should come into immediate operation, and make the Regulation to come into operation forthwith as a Provisional Regulation.

Regulation 198 made under the provisions of the Commonwealth Public Service Act 1902 is repealed and a new Regulation in the following terms is made in lieu thereof:—

Examinations and Tests.

198. Every candidate for admission to the General Division, except at special examinations referred to below, shall be examined in the following subjects:—

Full Marks.
(a) Handwriting.—To be judged from the candidate’s papers in spelling......	100
(b) Spelling.— Tobe tested by writing from dictation not less than 180 words	150
(c) Arithmetic.— First four rules, simple and money	200

Special.

In addition to passing in the above, persons applying to be registered for appointment as Inspector of Works or Clerk of Works must pass in—

Full Marks.
(a) Knowledge of materials commonly used in engineering and architectural works	250
(b)Making specifications and estimates, and working drawings of carpenters’ and masons’ work................................................................................................	100
(c) Taking out quantities, measuring and valuing work (the questions set will be such as to test the applicant’s skill and correctness in arithmetical calculation).....	250
