REGULATIONS UNDER THE COMMONWEALTH PUBLIC SERVICE ACT 1922-1937.*

THE PUBLIC SERVICE BOARD appointed under the Commonwealth Public Service Act 1922-1937, in pursuance and exercise of the authority conferred upon it by the said Act, and subject to the approval of the Governor-General, hereby makes the following Regulations.

Amendments of the Commonwealth Public Service Regulations. 

Salaries of officers of second Division.

1. Regulation 104 of the Commonwealth Public Service Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from the table the figures “876” and “1,000” shown opposite the offices of “Deputy Crown Solicitor, New South Wales” and “Deputy Crown Solicitor, Victoria” and inserting in their stead the figures “950” and “1,100”;

(b) by omitting from the table the words “Secretary, Munitions Supply Board” and inserting in their stead the words “Controller of Munitions Supply”; and

(c) by omitting from the table the figures “828” and “900” shown opposite the office of “Assistant Secretary (Administrative)” (Department of Commerce) and inserting in their stead the figures “876” and “1,000”.

Salaries of Officers of Third Division.

2. Regulation 105 of the Commonwealth Public Service Regulations is amended by inserting after the word “Act” in paragraph (c) of sub-regulation (3) the words “and to officers appointed to any position in the Third Division who are graduates of an Australian University.”.

Conditions of advancement in certain positions.

3. Regulation 105a of the Commonwealth Public Service Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting sub-paragraph (b) of paragraph (1) of the Conditions of Advancement of Officer shown opposite the office of “Assistant Examiner (Patent Office), £120-£354” and inserting in its stead the following sub-paragraph:—

“(b) he has passed an examination conducted by, or with the approval of, the Board, in—

(i) the Patent Law of the Commonwealth; and

(ii) the Procedure of the Patent Office, in accordance with a syllabus approved by the Board and notified in the Gazette”;

(b) by omitting sub-paragraph (b) of paragraph (2) of the Conditions of Advancement of Officer shown opposite the office of “Assistant Examiner (Patent Office), £120-£354” and inserting in its stead the following sub-paragraph:—

“(b) he has passed an examination conducted by, or with the approval of, the Board, in—

(i) the Patent Law of the Commonwealth, and

(ii) the Procedure of the Patent Office,

in accordance with a syllabus approved by the Board and notified in the Gazette.”;

(c) by omitting paragraph (ii) of the Conditions of Advancement of Officer shown opposite the office of “Clerk, £96-£330, Statistician’s Branch, Department of the Treasury” and inserting in its stead the following paragraph:—

“(ii) he has qualified for a University Diploma or Degree and has satisfied the Board that he has completed a course of study in Economies and Statistics which justifies his advancement.”;

(d) by omitting paragraph (ii) of the Conditions of Advancement of Officer shown opposite the office of “Examiner of Patents, Grade I” and inserting in its stead the following paragraph:—

“(ii) he has passed an examination—

(a) conducted by the Board of Examiners of Patent Attorneys in—

(1) the Patent Law of the Commonwealth and the Practice of the Patent Office; and

(2) Patent Case Law; or

(b) conducted by, or with the approval of, the Board in—

(1) the Patent Law of the Commonwealth;

(2) the Patent Case law of the Commonwealth; and

(3) the Procedure of the Patent Office,

in accordance with a syllabus approved by the Board and notified in the Gazette; and”; and

 

(e) by omitting the particulars shown opposite the office of “Radio Inspector, Assistant” and inserting in their stead the following particulars:—

“Shall not be advanced beyond £366 per annum unless—

(i) he has qualified for a first class commercial operator’s certificate of proficiency issued under the Wireless Telegraphy Regulations; or

(ii) he has passed such examination in subjects related to radio telegraphy as is required by the Board.”.

Salaries of female officers.

4. Regulation 105b of the Commonwealth Public Service Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from the table the figures “256” and “328” shown opposite the office of “Clerk, Public Service Inspector’s Office, New South Wales” and inserting in their stead the figures “280” and “352”;

(b) by omitting from the table the office of “Clerk, Patent, Trade Marks, Designs and Copyright Offices” and the particulars shown opposite that office;

(c) by omitting from the table the figures “364” and “436” shown opposite the office of “Assessor, Grade 5, Taxation (Assessing-Income Tax), Victoria” and inserting in their stead the figures “382” and “454”;

(d) by inserting in the table, after the office of “Clerk, Taxation (Correspondence and Accounts), Queensland”, the following office and particulars:—
