Amendment of the Commonwealth Public Service Regulations.
Regulation 98aa of the Commonwealth Public Service Regulations is repealed and the following regulation inserted in its stead :—
“ 98aa.—(1.) Where an unmarried adult officer who is stationed in Canberra and whose rate of salary does not exceed £400 per annum travels, while on recreation leave, from Canberra to the home of his

parent or guardian, the Chief Officer may, subject to the next succeeding sub-regulation, authorize reimbursement to the officer of the amount (if any) by which the officer’s fare to and from the locality in which the home of his parent or guardian is situated exceeds £7 10s.
“ (2.) Partial reimbursement of an officer’s fare under the last preceding sub-regulation shall not be authorized more than once in any two consecutive calendar years.
“ (3.) Where an officer who is under twenty-one years of age and is stationed in Canberra travels, while on recreation leave, from Canberra to the home of his parent or guardian, the Chief Officer may, subject to the next succeeding sub-regulation, authorize reimbursement to the officer of the amount (if any) by which the officer’s fare to and from the locality in which the home of his parent or guardian is situated exceeds £5.
“ (4.) Partial reimbursement of an officer’s fare under the last preceding sub-regulation shall not be authorized more than once in any one calendar year.
“ (5.) For the purposes of this regulation—
(
a ) the reference in sub-regulation (1.) to an officer’s rate of salary shall be read as a reference to the rate of salary actually payable to the officer (including any adjustment of that rate on account of variation in the cost of living) under the Act and these Regulations or under any determination in force under theArbitration Public Service Act 1920-1947; and(
b )‘ calendar year ’ means any period beginning on the first day of January and ending on the next succeeding thirty-first day of December.”.
