STATUTORY RULES.

1928. No. 12.

REGULATION UNDER THE COMMONWEALTH PUBLIC SERVICE ACT 1922-1924.

WHEREAS the special circumstances. attending the transfer of departments to a newly-established city will necessarily involve, at the outset, additional expense to officers of those departments in relation to housing, and living; And whereas it is expedient that such officers in these special circumstances should receive special 'allowances:

Now therefore the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, in pursuance and exercise of the authority conferred upon them by the Commonwealth Public Service Act 1922-1924, and subject to the approval of the Governor-General, hereby make the following Regulation, to operate from the 1st April, 1927.

1. Subject to the approval of the President of the Senate or the Speaker of the House of Representatives, or the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, (as the case may be), any person who, by reason of the removal of a parliamentary department is compulsorily transferred to Canberra, or is appointed to a position in a Parliamentary department before the twentieth day of October, 1927, may be paid, until otherwise determined by the President or the Speaker, or the President and the Speaker, (as the case may be), a special allowance in accordance with the following scales:—

Salary of Officer.

A

Married Officer who purchases, builds, or rents a house at Canberra.

Rate per annum.

B

Married officer other than as specified in A.

  

Rate per annum.

Unmarried officer.

2. The scale of allowance applicable and the date from which it is payable shall in each case be determined by the President or the Speaker, or the President and the Speaker, (as the case may be).

3. Salary for the purpose of this regulation shall be deemed to be the salary of the officer on 1st July, 1927, or the salary at which the officer has been appointed, provided that in the case of an officer transferred prior to 1st July, 1927, salary until- that date shall be deemed to be the salary received at date of transfer.

4. For the purpose of this regulation a married officer shall include a widower with dependent children and any officer maintaining dependents whose circumstances in the opinion of the President or the Speaker, or the President and the Speaker, (as the case may be), justify inclusin.
