Amendments of Commonwealth Public Service Regulations.
(Statutory Rules 1926, No. 212, as amended to this date.)
“(1) The Chief Officer of each Department shall cause a return to be forwarded monthly to the Board showing all punishments imposed under the provisions of the Act or these Regulations during the previous month, except fines of an amount of £2 or less and punishments imposed under Section 55 (2) of the Act for minor offences.”

1461.—Price
(3) The minimum travelling allowance payable to officers acting as members of an Appeal Board or a Board of Inquiry shall be at the rate of 15s. a day.
(4) Where allowance has been paid to an officer under this regulation for eight weeks’ residence in one locality, the Chief Officer shall submit the case to the Board for review. No such allowance shall be continued beyond three months without the concurrence of the Board, and if, upon review, the Board considers the amount excessive it shall be discontinued or reduced to such amount as the Board thinks fit.
(5) No allowance, other than for expenses necessarily incurred, shall be paid under this regulation in any case where an officer is not required to be absent from his head-quarters over night.”

“(
z ) An officer occupying, in the Department of Trade and Customs (Marine Branch), an office of Draftsman with limits of salary £114-£456 (£120-£474 from 1st. July, 1926) and receiving salary not exceeding £276 per annum (£306 per annum from 1st July, 1926), shall not be advanced beyond that amount unless—(1) he has furnished evidence to the satisfaction of the Board that he has completed an approved course of study in subjects relating to the work of the position which he is occupying and in allied subjects at a Technical School or other institution approved by the Board.
On compliance with condition (1) the officer shall, if an adult, be paid not less than £288 per annum (£294 per annum from 1st July, 1926), and may advance by annual increments to £378 per annum (£384 per annum from 1st July, 1926). Until the officer complies with condition (1) he shall be designated ‘Cadet’.”
(
aa ) An officer occupying, in the Department of Trade and Customs (Marine Branch), an office of Draftsman with limits of salary £114-£456 (£120-£474 from 1st July, 1926), shall not be advanced in salary beyond £378 per annum (£384 per annum from 1st July, 1926), except upon evidence to the satisfaction of the Board that the character and importance of the work so warrant, and that he is capable of discharging under the general supervision of the controlling officer any duties which come within the scope of the Section in which he is employed.(
ab )An officer occupying, in the Department of Markets, an office of Junior Grader with limits of salary £348-£468 (£354-£474 from 1st July, 1926), shall not be advanced in salary beyond £396 per annum (£402 per annum from 1st July (1926), except upon evidence to the satisfaction of the Board that he is capable of discharging any duties which come within the scope of the section in which he is employed. Upon approval of the advancement in salary beyond £396 per annum (£402 per annum from 1st July, 1926) the officer shall be designated ‘Grader’.”

157. (1) Competitive examinations may be held for admission to the Service in the Fourth Division and, except as otherwise prescribed, every candidate shall be examined in the following subjects:—

(2) A candidate shall not be regarded as having passed the examination unless he passes in Handwriting and obtains at least half of the full marks in Spelling and Arithmetic:
Provided that a candidate for the position of Telegraph Messenger shall be held to be qualified for appointment if he passes in Handwriting and obtains half the full marks for Spelling, but his order of merit shall be determined by the number of marks obtained for Spelling and Arithmetic.
