REGULATIONS UNDER THE COMMONWEALTH PUBLIC SERVICE ACT 1922-1934.*

THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS appointed under the Commonwealth Public Service Act 1922-1934, in pursuance and exercise of the authority conferred upon it by the said Act, and subject to the approval of the Governor-General, hereby makes the following Regulations.

Amendments of Commonwealth Public Service Regulations. 

Report as to Officers attaining 60 years.

1. Regulation 21 is repealed and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—

“21. When an officer attains the age of sixty years the Permanent Head shall report to the Board as to the efficiency of the officer for the performance of, and his willingness to continue to perform, the duties of his classified position.”.

Return of officers over 60 years of age.

2. Regulation 22 is repealed and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—

“22. (1) The Permanent Head shall furnish the Board, in the month of April in each year, with a return of officers in his Department whose age is sixty years or more and a report in each case as to whether the officer performs efficiently the duties of his classified position and is willing to continue in the performance of such duties.

(2) If the Permanent Head is of the opinion that any such officer, on account of inefficiency in the performance of the duties of his classified position, should be transferred to another position or retired, he shall recommend accordingly and state the reasons for his recommendation.”.

Camping and lodging allowances.

3. Regulation 89 is repealed and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—

“89. (1) In the case of officers who are required to camp out in the performance of their work, when supplied by the Department with camp equipment, the following allowances shall be granted:—

Married officers......................................

3s. per day.

Unmarried officers..................................

2s. per day.

(2) Officers engaged in supervising contracts who are required to camp in the vicinity of the work shall, if they are supplied with camp equipment and meals, receive no allowance, but where meals are not supplied, the amount of allowance shall be at the rate of 25s. per week.

(3) Officers employed in camping parties who are permitted to go into lodgings for a period of not less than six days while within a two-mile radius of a town, shall, subject to the provisions of sub-regulation (3) of regulation 75a, be paid an allowance at the rate of 35s. per week while in lodgings, such allowance to be reduced to 25s. per week after the first week in the case of unmarried officers.

(4) For the purposes of this regulation a married officer shall be deemed to include any unmarried officer or a widower who is maintaining a home and/or supporting dependent relatives in circumstances which in the opinion of the Board justify his inclusion.”.

Miscellaneous allowances.

4. After regulation 89 the following regulation is inserted:—

“89a.(1) Patrol linemen employed outside metropolitan areas shall be paid an allowance of 35s. per week.

(2) Officers on the staffs of travelling post-offices shall be paid an allowance of 4d. per hour.

(3) Telephonists undergoing a course of training shall be paid an allowance of 30s. per week, but such allowance shall not be paid at the station of appointment or in locality of place of residence prior to appointment.”.

5. Regulation 104 is amended—

(a) by omitting from the table the following:—

“Assistant Secretary—Two positions, each £876-£l,000”.

(b) by inserting in the table, after the office of “Inspector-General of Forests”, the following offices and particulars:—

10. Regulation 106b is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (1) the figures “150” and “142” and inserting in their stead the figures “153” and “145”, respectively.

 

11. Regulation141k is repealed and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—

Forfeiture of office.

141k. If any officer appointed or elected as Divisional Representative—

(a) ceases to be employed in the division or in the State for which he was elected or appointed as representative, or

(b) tenders his resignation as Divisional Representative and his resignation is accepted by the Board,

he shall thereupon cease to hold office as Divisional Representative, and that office shall be deemed to have become vacant.”.

Operation of amendments.

12. Regulations 7, 8 and 10 of these Regulations shall be deemed to have come into operation on the first day of July, 1935.
