Act No. 48, 1983.

An Act to refer to the Parliament of the Commonwealth certain matters

relating to the inspection of meat. [Assented to, 4th May, 1983.]

Commonwealth Powers (Meat Inspection).

BE it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as the "Commonwealth Powers (Meat Inspection) Act, 1983".

Commencement.

(1) Except as provided by subsection (2), this Act shall commence on the date of assent to this Act.

(2) Section 4 shall commence on such day as may be appointed by the Governor in respect thereof and as may be notified by proclamation published in the Gazette.

Duration of operation of Act.

Section 4 shall cease to be in force immediately after such day as may

be appointed by the Governor in respect thereof and as may be notified
by proclamation published in the Gazette.

Reference of certain matters relating to meat inspection.

4. (1) Subject to subsection (2), the matter of the inspection of meat that is intended for human consumption or for use as animal food, to the extent to which it is not otherwise included in the legislative powers of the Parliament of the Commonwealth, is referred to the Parliament of the Commonwealth for a period commencing on the day appointed and notified under section 2 (2) and ending on the day appointed and notified under section 3, but no longer.

(2) After the day appointed and notified under section 3, any law made by the Parliament of the Commonwealth with respect to the matter of the inspection of meat that is intended for human consumption or for use as animal food shall, to the extent to which, but for this Act, it would have had no force or effect, cease to have any force or effect.
