Commencement Proclamation

under the

Retirement Villages Amendment Act 2018 No 77

I, General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d), Governor of New South Wales, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of section 2 of the Retirement Villages

Amendment Act 2018, do, by this my Proclamation, appoint 1 July 2019 as the day on which

Schedule 1 [1], [3]–[9] and [12]–[16] and Schedule 2 [1]–[2] to that Act commence.

Explanatory note
The object of this Proclamation is to commence certain provisions of the Retirement Villages Amendment
Act 2018 that amend the Retirement Villages Act 1999. The amendments:
(a) require operators of retirement villages to:

(i)         prepare and maintain emergency plans, carry out safety inspections, conduct emergency evacuation exercises and display key safety information, and

(ii)       explain certain village contract information to residents if requested, and

(iii)      seek the consent of the retirement village residents to the appointment of auditors, and

(b)

enable guidelines to be issued to assist operators of retirement villages in complying with certain provisions of the Retirement Villages Act 1999.
