Commencement Proclamation

under the

Companion Animals and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2018 No 27

By Deputation from His Excellency the Governor

I, General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d), Governor of New South Wales, with
the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of section 2 of the Companion Animals and
Other Legislation Amendment Act 2018, do, by this my Proclamation, appoint:

(a)

31 August 2018 as the day on which Schedule 1 [1]–[5], [7], [8], [10], [14], [15], [17] and [19]–[22] to that Act commence, and

(b)

1 July 2019 as the day on which the remaining uncommenced provisions of that Act commence.

Explanatory note
The objects of this Proclamation are:

(a)

to commence on 31 August 2018 various amendments to the Companion Animals Act 1998, including in relation to the Register of Companion Animals, and

(b) to commence on 1 July 2019 the remaining uncommenced provisions of the Companion Animals and

Other Legislation Amendment Act 2018, which include:

(i)         amendments to the Companion Animals Act 1998 that require an annual permit, in addition

to the current lifetime registration, for certain cats and dogs and the ear-marking or tattooing
of companion animals when they are desexed, and

(ii)       amendments to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979 relating to the advertising of the sale of certain cats and dogs.
