Commencement Proclamation

under the

Greyhound Racing Act 2017 No 13

DAVID HURLEY, Governor

I, General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d), Governor of New South Wales, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of section 2 (1) of the Greyhound Racing

Act 2017, do, by this my Proclamation, appoint 1 July 2018 as the day on which the uncommenced

provisions of that Act commence.

Explanatory note

The object of this Proclamation is to commence the remainder of the Greyhound Racing Act 2017, including those provisions relating to the following:

(a) the repeal of the Greyhound Racing Act 2009,

(b)

the control and regulation of the greyhound racing industry (including the requirements for the registration of greyhounds, greyhound racing industry participants, greyhound racing clubs and greyhound trial tracks),

(c) disciplinary action that may be taken by the Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission (the

Commission) and Greyhound Racing New South Wales,

(d) investigation and enforcement powers of the Commission,
(e) inquiries into the greyhound racing industry by the Commission.

Provisions relating to the constitution of the Commission, reconstitution of Greyhound Racing NSW and establishment of the Greyhound Industry Animal Welfare Committee and other machinery provisions commenced on 3 July 2017.
