Commencement Proclamation

under the

Local Government Amendment (Governance and Planning) Act 2016

No 38

THOMAS FREDERICK BATHURST, Lieutenant-Governor

I, the Honourable Thomas Frederick Bathurst AC, Lieutenant-Governor of New South Wales, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of section 2 (1) of the Local Government Amendment (Governance and Planning) Act 2016, do, by this my Proclamation, appoint:

(a)

23 September 2016 as the day on which Schedule 1 [1]–[3], [5], [7], [9], [10], [13], [15], [16], [23], [24], [32], [33], [39], [46]–[49] and [80]–[83] commence, and

(b) 1 October 2016 as the day on which Schedule 1 [36]–[38] commence.

Explanatory note
The object of this Proclamation is to commence amendments to the Local Government Act 1993 relating to the following matters:
(a) the purpose of the Act and principles for local government,
(b) the roles of governing bodies of councils, mayors and councillors,
(c) the appointment of administrators, financial controllers and temporary advisers,
(d) the functions of general managers,
(e) delegations by councils,
(f) the auditing of councils by the Auditor-General.
