Commencement Proclamation

under the

Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998
No 157

MARIE BASHIR, Governor I, Professor Marie Bashir AC, CVO, Governor of the State of New South Wales, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of section 2 of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998, do, by this my Proclamation, appoint 30 June 2010 as the day on which sections 159 and 172 of that Act commence.

Explanatory note

The object of this Proclamation is to commence provisions of the Children and Young

Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 that:

(a)

require the Director-General to maintain a register in which there are entered particulars of every child or young person who has been in out-of-home care for a continuous period of 28 days or more, and

(b)

require the designated agency having supervisory responsibility for a child or young person who dies while in out-of-home care to immediately cause notice of the death to be given to the child’s or young person’s parents, the Children’s Guardian and the Coroner.
