Commencement Proclamation

under the

Marine Safety Amendment Act 2008 No 59

JAMES JACOB SPIGELMAN, Lieutenant-Governor I, the Honourable James Jacob Spigelman AC, Lieutenant-Governor of the State of New South Wales, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of section 2 of the Marine Safety Amendment Act 2008, do, by this my Proclamation, appoint 30 March 2009 as the day on which Schedule 1 [13], [15], [17]–[19], [23], [24], [29] and [34]–[39] to that Act commence.

Explanatory note

The object of this Proclamation is to commence amendments made to the Marine Safety Act

1998 by the Marine Safety Amendment Act 2008 that deal with the following matters:

(a) removing provisions relating to surveyor’s accreditation and accredited surveyors,
(b) fees and charges payable in relation to marine safety licences,
(c) general provisions relating to marine safety licences,
(d) exemptions from registration requirements for certain vessels,
(e) offences relating to the operation of vessels,

Explanatory note
(f) qualifying certain exemptions from holding a boat driving licence,

(g)

enabling the making of regulations in relation to marine safety equipment and facilities and builders plates to be fixed to vessels.
