payable on all imported Spirits have been altered and it is expedient WH E R E A S by an Act passed in the present Session of the Legis­lative Council " for granting Duties of Customs" the Duties
and proper that the Duty payable on Spirits made or distilled in the Colony of New South Wales should at the same time be altered and fixed at the sum hereinafter mentioned Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency the Governor of New South Wales by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof as follows:—There shall henceforth

An Act to alter the Duty upon Colonial Spirits.

[19th August, 1852.]

henceforth be payable on all Spirits made or distilled in the said Colony or its Dependencies a Duty of three shillings and eight-pence per gallon in lieu of the Duty heretofore levied upon such Spirits which said Duty shall be computed and charged according to the gallon of imperial standard measure and at the strength of proof as indicated by the instrument known as Sykes' hydrometer and so in proportion respectively for any greater or less quantity or strength.
