An Act to permit Goods the Produce or Manu­ facture of New Zealand or Van Diemen's Land to be imported into the Colony of New South Wales free of Duty and to indemnify certain Officers for Acts already done. [30th

N e w South Wales of goods a n d manufac tu res t he produce of New W H E R E A S N e w Zealand lias been recent ly formed in to a separate and independent Colony and whereas t he free impor ta t ion in to

Zealand or V a n Diemen ' s L a n d m a y be product ive of considerable commercia l advantages to t h e t r ade as well of N e w South W a l e s as of bo th those Colonies Be i t therefore enac ted by H i s Excel lency the Governor of N e w South Wales w i t h t h e advice of t h e Legislative? Counci l thereof Tha t from and after t h e pass ing of t h i s Ac t all goods

and commodit ies (except sp i r i tuous l iquors cordials or l iqueurs) be ing

t h e g rowth produce or manufac tu re of V a n Diemen ' s L a n d or of New Zealand m a y be impor ted in to t h e Colony of New South W a l e s free of

any du ty .
2. Provided always and be i t enacted Tha t n o t h i n g in th i s

A c t conta ined shal l ex tend or be const rued to extend to allow of t h e impor t a t i on free of du ty of any goods or commodit ies wha tever not be ing t h e g rowth produc t ion or manufac tu re of Van Diemen ' s L a n d or N e w Zealand respectively b u t t ha t all art icles of foreign g rowth pro­ duct ion or manufac tu re impor ted from any place or po r t in V a n Diemen ' s L a n d or N e w Zealand in to New South W a l e s shal l be liable a n d subject to t h e p a y m e n t of such dut ies as m a y be imposed and chargeable according to t h e laws a n d regu la t ions in force in N e w Sou th W a l e s at t he t ime of t h e impor ta t ion of such art icles of foreign

A n d whereas since the pass ing in t h e four th year of t he re ign of H e r Majesty Queen Vic tor ia of t he Ac t in t i tu led " An Act "for increasing the Duties on Spirits Wine and other goods and nier- " chandise imported into the Colony of New South Wales and its " Dependencies" doubts m a y arise as to t h e exempt ion from du ty of the p roduce or manufac tu res of V a n Diemen ' s L a n d (except ing sp i r i tuous l iquors) impor ted in to N e w Sou th Wales for t he removal of such doubts as well as for t h e indemnification of all Officers of Cus toms in New South W a l e s or any person or persons act ing in thei r aid or assistance Be i t enac ted T h a t all Officers of Cus toms and any person or persons ac t ing in the i r aid or assistance shall be freed and discharged from all damages penal t ies forfeitures and charges whatsoever to which they
g rowth or manufac tu re .
