An Act to amend the Law as to the Qualification

for certain Judicial and other Offices. [28th
December, 1861.]
W H E R E A S cer ta in Jud ic i a l a n d o ther offices in th i s Colony can
under t h e present law be held only by Bar r i s te r s of E n g l a n d
or I r e l a n d and i t is desirable to render Bar r i s te r s who have been
admi t t ed to prac t ice in the S u p r e m e Cour t of t h i s Colony equal ly
eligible for any office wi th in t h e Colony Be i t therefore enacted by

t h e Queen ' s Most Exce l l en t Majes ty b y a n d wi th t h e advice a n d con­ sent of t h e Legis la t ive Counci l and Legis la t ive Assembly of New South W a l e s in P a r l i a m e n t assembled and by the au thor i ty of t he same as follows :—

1 . The offices of Chief Ju s t i ce a n d of t h e Pu i sne Jus t i ces a n d of
t h e Mas t e r in E q u i t y of t h e Sup reme Cour t of N e w Sou th W a l e s and
any o ther offices in t h e Colony may be he ld by Barr i s te rs admi t t ed
u n d e r t he provisions of t h e e leventh Vic tor ia n u m b e r fifty-seven as
Bar r i s te r s of t h e Supreme Cour t of N e w South Wales in l ike m a n n e r
and subject t o t he l ike qualifications as to s t and ing a t t he B a r as if
t hey h a d been Bar r i s te r s of E n g l a n d or I r e l and all former Char te r s
wi ths tand ing .
