An Ordinance to amend the Co-operative Societies
Ordinance 1939-1958.
1.—(1.) This Ordinance may be cited as the Co-operative short utie
Societies Ordinance 1962.*
(2.) The Co-operative Societies Ordinance 1939-1958f is in this Ordinance referred to as the Principal Ordinance.
(3.) The Principal Ordinance, as amended by this Ordi- nance, may be cited as the Co-operative Societies Ordinance 1939-1962.

3. After section sixteen of the Principal Ordinance the following section is inserted:—

their stead the following sub-sections:—
" (1.) A society may, by special resolution and with the approval of the Registrar, change its name to a name by which the society could be registered without contravention of section sixteen AA of this Ordinance.
" (2.) If the name of a society is (whether through in- advertence or otherwise and whether originally or by change of name) a name by which the society could not be registered without contravention of section sixteen AA of this Ordinance, the Registrar may, by notice in writing, direct the society to change its name to a name by which the society could be registered without contravention of that section.

No. 3. Co-operative Societies. 19t>2. " (3.) Where a society has been registered under this Ordinance by the same name since before the commencement of this section, the Registrar shall not direct the society to change that name unless he is directed to do so by the Attorney- General.
" (3A.) A society to which a notice under sub-section (2.) of this section is given which does not change its name as directed by the notice within the time specified in the notice is, unless the Attorney-General by order in writing annuls the direction, guilty of an offence, which offence shall be deemed to continue until the name of the society is so changed, and the offence is punishable by a fine not exceeding Fifty pounds for each day during which the offence continues.
" (3B . ) A society which has been directed under this section
to change its name may change its name, for the purpose of complying with the direction, without obtaining the approval of the Registrar.".
