Preamble,

W HEREAS it is expedient to amend an Act No. 12 of 1860,

intituled "An Act to repeal an Act No. 21 of 1854, intituled

'An Act to provide for the retirement of Officers in the Civil

Service,' and to provide for the settlement of all claims arising under the said Act, and far other purposes" aid to make provision for officers on the fixed establislirnents of the Civil Service of the said Province who may die while in such service-Be it therefore Enacted, by the Governor-in-Chief of the Province of South Aus- tralia, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council

Parliament assembled, as follows:

1. This Act may be cited, for all purposes, as " The Civil Service Amendment Act, 1865-6,"

Short title.

2. Sections 5 and 6 of the said Act, No, 13 of 1860, are hereby Repeal.

repealed, except as to any matter or thing heretofore lawfully done

thereunder.

shall, with the consent

of #the Governor in ~xecutive' Council, be kntitl& to and shall be paid by the Treasurer a sum equal to one month's salary for every year that any such officer may have served on the Fixed f3stablish- ments of the said Civil Service; and the average salary received by any such .officer during thc thsec years ncst prcccding such death, resignation, or removal, from office shall be talicn as the salary of such officer, for the purpose of calculating the amount to be paid

by the said Treasurer, as aforesaid: Provided that no such officer

shall be permitted to resign his office, except upon a medical cer-

tificate of illness, infirmity, or age, until he shall have attained the

age of sixty years, or have been twenty years in the Civil Service of
