Replacement of section 100.93 of the Civil Aviation Orders
Section 100.93 of the Civil Aviation Orders is omitted and a new section substituted as set out in Schedule 1.

SECTION 100.93
ADMINISTRATION AND PROCEDURE — AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE ENGINEER LICENCES — CATEGORY RADIO
APPLICATION
1.1Except where otherwise approved or directed by CASA, this section of the CAOs applies to the requirements for the grant of an aircraft maintenance engineer licence in category radio systems and for the grant of additional ratings to a licence in this category.
1.2This section of the CAOs is to be read in conjunction with the current issue of CAO section 100.90 and AAC 9-93.
DEFINITIONS
Terms and abbreviations used in this section are detailed in CAO section 100.90.
RATINGS
Category radio systems is classified into the following ratings:
Group 1VHF and HF communication systems other than Group 20 systems.
Group 2Audio and cockpit voice recorder systems other than Group 20 systems.
Group 3Automatic direction finding systems other than Group 20 systems.
Group 4 VHF OMNI range systems other than Group 20 systems.
Group 5Marker, localiser and glideslope systems other than Group 20 systems.
Group 6Weather radar systems other than Group 20 systems.
Group 7Air traffic transponder systems other than Group 20 systems.
Group 8Very low frequency navigation systems other than Group 20 systems.
Group 9Radio altimeter systems other than Group 20 systems.
Group 10Distance measuring equipment systems other than Group 20 systems.
Group 11Doppler navigation systems other than Group 20 systems.
Group 12Satellite Navigation Systems.
Group 20Radio systems installed in aeroplanes classified as high capacity aeroplanes and employed in regular public transport operations.
LICENCE RATINGS AND FORM OF ENDORSEMENT
4.1Ratings specifying the groups of radio systems and, if applicable, the aircraft type or series for which the privileges of the licence may be exercised must be endorsed on the licence.
4.2Applicants who comply with the experience and examination requirements of subsections 5 and 6 of this section may be granted the appropriate rating, subject to the conditions specified at paragraphs 4.3 and 4.4.
4.2.1A separate rating in Group 20 is required for each aircraft listed in AAC 9-93.
4.3Applicants for a Group 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 rating must hold a Group 1 rating.
4.4Endorsement of ratings must take the following form:

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS FOR EXAMINATIONS, GRANT OF A LICENCE OR ENDORSEMENT OF A RATING
5.1There are no work experience requirements to be met prior to sitting any examination.
5.2The minimum experience required for the grant of a licence is 4 years’ aircraft maintenance or aircraft component maintenance including:
(a)aircraft maintenance experience, consisting of:
(i)2 years’ maintenance experience in category radio systems; or
(ii)if the person holds an aircraft maintenance engineer licence that is endorsed with a rating in category electrical systems or category instruments — 1 year’s maintenance experience in category radio systems; and
(b)practical experience in the group or type for which a rating is sought, to the scope and depth indicated in the relevant Schedule of Experience issued by CASA, or other approved documents.
5.3For the endorsement of additional radio ratings, the minimum experience required is that specified in the relevant Schedule of Experience.
5.4Successful completion of a relevant training course acceptable to CASA will be required for aircraft classified as Group 20 aircraft.
5.5For aircraft classified as Group 20 aircraft, practical experience must be specified in a Schedule of Experience compiled by the Operator and approved by CASA.
EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS
For the grant of a licence or endorsement of additional ratings, applicants must pass the relevant examinations specified by CASA and listed in AAC 9-93.
LICENCE RATINGS AND EXAMINATION EQUIVALENCY
7.1From the effective date of this CAO, ratings granted in accordance with section 100.93 will be deemed to be equivalent to the corresponding ratings listed in AAC 9-93.
7.2From the effective date of this CAO, examination credits granted in accordance with section 100.93 will be deemed to be equivalent to the examinations specified by CASA and listed in AAC 9-93.
LIMITATIONS
A licence holder exercising the privileges of a licence and engaging in telephonic communication with stations in the Aeronautical Mobile Service is required to be in possession of an appropriate Radio Operator’s Certificate. The following certificates satisfy this requirement:
(a)Radiocommunication Operator’s General Certificate of Proficiency;
(b)Senior Coast Station Operator’s Certificate of Proficiency;
(c)Coast Station Operator’s Certificate of Proficiency;
(d)First Class Commercial Operator’s Certificate of Proficiency;
(e)Second Class Commercial Operator’s Certificate of Proficiency;
(f)Restricted Operator’s Certificate of Proficiency (Radio Telephony);
(g)Aircraft Radio Telephone Operator’s Certificate;
(h)Radiotelephone Operator’s General Certificate of Proficiency;
(i)A wireless telephony operator’s certificate issued in another country and accepted by CASA as being of a satisfactory standard.
