An Act to sanction the ex tens ion of t he rai lway from i ts present t e rminus at Redfern to the no r th of Devonsh i re - s t ree t , and the construc­ t ion the re of a commodious s ta t ion and adminis t ra t ive offices; and for purposes con­ sequent upon and incidenta l to those objects.

WH E R E A S , in accordance with the provisions of the Public Works tha t it was expedient to ca r ry out a cer tain work, namely, the extension Act, 1900, the Legislative Assembly did, by resolution, declare

of the ra i lway from its present te rminus at Redfern to the nor th of Devonshire-street , and the construction there of a commodious stat ion and adminis t ra t ive offices: And whereas, on the pass ing of the said resolution, a s t a tu to ry du ty was by the said Act imposed on the Secre t ry for Public Works to introduce a Bill into the said Assembly to sanction the ca r ry ing out of the said work : Be it therefore enacted by the Queen 's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislat ive Council and Legislat ive Assembly- of New South Wales in Pa r l i amen t assembled, and by the au thor i ty of the same, as follows:—

1, This Act may be cited as the " City Railway' Extens ion (Devonshire-street) Act, 1900."

2.    The ca r ry ing out of the said work (more par t icu lar ly described

in the Schedule to this Act) is hereby sanct ioned; and the Secre ta ry for

Public Works , or the Member of the Executive Council for the time being per forming the duties of the said Secretary, is hereby authorised to under take and car ry out the said work, subject to the provisions of this Act, and for tha t purpose shall be, and shall have the powers and duties of, a Const ruct ing Author i ty within the meaning of the Public Works Act, 1900.

3. The plan of the said work is the plan marked " City Railway Extension—Benevolent Asylum G r o u n d s , " signed by the Secre ta ry for Public Works , and countersigned by the Engineer-in-Chief for Rai lway Construction, and deposited in the public office of the said Secre tary .

4. The cost of ca r ry ing out the said work, including the cost of resumption, es t imated at five hundred and sixty-one thousand six hundred pounds, may be defrayed from such Loan Votes as are now or may hereaf ter be applicable to tha t purpose, and shall not under any circumstances exceed the est imated cost by more than ten r>er centum.

S C H E D U L E .

New railway terminus and administrative offices at Benevolent Asylum grounds, Redfern.

This is the construct ion of a new ra i lway te rminus a t the north side of Devonshire- s t reet , and includes t he bui lding of all necessary offices, platforms and road approaches,

and the extension of some of t he exist ing lines of rails in the present Redfern S ta t ion .

The a rea of the land to be t a k e n for t he purpose is bounded by Devonshire-s t reet

on t he south, Belmore-road on the nor th , a line ex tending from the eas tern side of

Cast lereagh-street to Belmore-road a t about th ree hundred a n d sixty-seven feet from

El izabeth-s t reet on t he east , and P i t t - s t ree t on t he west.

T h e whole is subject to such deviat ions and modifications as may be considered

desirable by t he Cons t ruc t ing A u th o r i t y .
