City of Melbourne (Electoral) Amendment Regulations 2024

The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1Objective

The objective of these Regulations is to amend the City of Melbourne (Electoral) Regulations 2022 to make changes relating to the form, rejection and amendment of joint statements, candidate statements and group statements.

2Authorising provisions

These Regulations are made under sections 325 and 326 of the Local Government Act 2020 and section 29 of the City of Melbourne Act 2001.

3Commencement

These Regulations come into operation on 26 June 2024.

4Principal Regulations

In these Regulations, the City of Melbourne (Electoral) Regulations 2022[1] are called the Principal Regulations.

5Joint statement—Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor

In regulation 27(2)(a) of the Principal Regulations, for "350 words" substitute "250 words".

6Candidate statement—ungrouped candidates

In regulation 28(2)(a) of the Principal Regulations, for "300 words" substitute "200 words".

7Group statement

In regulation 29(2)(a) of the Principal Regulations, for "350 words" substitute "250 words".

8Rejection and amendment of statements

(1)In regulation 33(2) of the Principal Regulations, for "second day after nomination day" substitute "day following the last day for lodgement of the statement under this Division".

(2)In regulation 33(5) of the Principal Regulations, for "the last day for lodgement of the statement under this Division" substitute "the day the election manager is required to give notice under subregulation (2)".
