Salaries as aforesaid may be determined by the Council differentially according to the following classes of offices, that is to say : - ( i. ) The Mayor ; ( ii. ) The Vice Mayor ; (iii. ) TohfeStraenspdeinctgivCeomchmaiirtmteeens ooff tthhee CCoouunnccilil; and (iv. ) Other aldermen, but the Council shall not have power to differentiate between the respective salaries of the aldermen holding the offices specified in paragraph (iii. ) , or between the respective . salaries of aldermen specified in paragraph ( iv. ) , of this subsection. Provided that- (a) The Mayor shall be entitled to receive in . addition to his salary such allowance for expenses as the Council may from time to time determine ; (b) If the Vice Mayor is also the chairman of a Standing Committee of the Council he shall, while he continues to hold both of those offices, be entitled to be paid the salary of whichever of them is the higher, but he shall not be entitled to be paid, and shall not be paid, both of those salaries ; * 15 G. 5 No. 32 and amending Acts,
