B E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, . ~ by and with the advice and consent of the Legis- lative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:- 1. (1.) This Act may be cited as "The City qf Short title Brisbane Acts Amendment Act of 1944," and shall be read and t' as one with *" The City of Brisbane Acts, 1924 to 1943," construe Ion. herein referred to as the Principal Act. Section four of the Principal Act is amended aSAmendment follows, namely :_ of s. 4. (1.) Subsection two of the said section is repealed, and the following new subsection two is inserted in lieu thereof, namely:- "[2.] The boundaries of the City shall be the [Boundaries. boundaries set forth in the First Schedule to this Act." Notwithstanding anything contained in remit rates. this Act, the Council is hereby empowered, in any case where it thinks proper to do so, to remit and wholly discharge any rates made and levied under this Act or any other Act in respect of any land for the payment of which any person is or may be or become liable who is an incapacitated returned member of the Naval, Military, or Air Forces of the Commonwealth or is a merchant seaman incapacitated from causes arising out of operations of war or is the widow of a person or a widowed mother of an unmarried son, whose death was the result of, or aggravated by, war service (which shall be deemed to include service as a merchant seaman in the present war), or is a sufferer from an industrial disease as deffued by t" The Workers' Oompensation Acts, 1916 to 1943" (or any Act amending or in substitution for the same), or is in receipt of an invalid or old-age pension under any law of the Commonwealth relating to such pensions. For the purposes of this subsection "merchant seaman" includes every person employed or engaged in any capacity in sea-going service on board any ship. Power to compound rates. (2.) Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act' the Council may, in any case it thinks proper to do so, remit and wholly discharge any rates due and in arrear or enter into any agreement with any owner for the payment of a composition in respect of such rates or for the pay- ment of such rates in instalments, or, where land is free • This Act. t 6 G. 5 No. 35 and amending Acts, v. 4, pp. 834 et aBq.

City of Brisbane Acts Amendment Act. from any mortgage, ehcumbrance, lien, bill of sale, caveat, judgment, writ, warrant, or other charge, agree- ment or process registered· against . or in any way affecting the land, may accept a transfer of the land in full satisfaction of all rates due and in arrear in respect of the said land. (3.) For the purposes of this section the term Definition of "rates" shall be deemed to include general rates, ~ ~ = es. " water and sewerage rates and cleansing dues and shall also include the interest (if any) which such rates and dues may bear." 5. Commencing on low water mark of the shore of Moreton Bay at the mouth of the Pine River, and bounded thence by that river, the South Pine River and Albany Creek upwards to the north boundary of portion 48, parish of Bunya, by the north, west, and south boundaries of. that portion, by the east and south boundaries of portion 602, parish of Kedron, by the western boundaries of portions 604, 593 and 595, by the south-east boundaries of sections 10, 9, and 8 town of Bunyaville, by the north-east and east boundaries of portion 5, parish of Bunya to Kedron Brook, by that brook upwards to portion 81A, parish of Samford, by the east and south boundaries of that portion, by the south boundaries of portions 82A and 111, by the east bound- aries of portions 85v and 86, by the south boundary of portion 86 and a line west to portion 109, by the south-east and south boundaries of that portion, by the east boundary of portion 91, by the northern and western boundaries of R. 309 to D'Aguilar Range, by that range, forming the western boundaries of the parishes of Samford, Indooroo- pilly, and Moggill south-easterly to the north-east corner of portion 15v, parish of Kholo, by the north-eastern and eastern boundaries of ~ hat portion, by the east boundary of portion 62, by the north-east boundary of portion 106, by the north-east, east, and south boundaries of portion 93 to Kholo Creek, by that creek and the Brisbane River downwards to Woogaroo Creek; by that creek upwards to the Brisbane-Toowoomba road, by that road north-easterly to portion 163, parish of Oxley, by the south-west boundary of that portion, by the south-east boundary of portion 57, parish of Woogaroo to a road, by that road easterly to portion 46, by the northern boundary of that portion, by the west boundaries of portions 39 and 47 to the Goodna- Brown's Plains road, by that road south-easterly and easterly to the south-east corner of portion 3, parish of Mitchell, by the east boundaries of portions 3 and 4, by the southern boundary of the parish of Yeerongpilly easterly to the south-east corner of portion 403, by the eastern boundaries of portions 403 and 405, by the south boundaries of portions 57, 58, 166 to 168, and 5v, by the Kingston
