HEREAS bp an Ordinance passed on the nineteenth day of

Scptemhcr, one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine,

" Further to amend and continue the Ordinances authorising the

levying of an Assessment within the City of Adclaidc, and t o pro- vide for the improveinent of the City uhtil Munieipd Institutions shall be established," it was enacted, that certain powers and mithorities, rights and privileges, tlwrcin referred t,o, should be exercised a id cnjoyed by a Koa,rd of Comnlissioners, to be called the " City Cominissioiiers :" And wlmws by the said recited Ordinal& it was provided, that whenever the ordinance To con- stitute a Municipal Corporatioii for the City of Adelaide " sho~ild

come into operation, the said recited Ordinance should cease and determine, save as is therein provided: And whereas by virtue of' a Proclamation, d ~ d y issued by the Governor, and published in the Soutk Australian Government Gazette, the said Ordinance To coiwtitute a Municipal Corporation for the City of Adelaide " hat11 come into effect, and by means thereof the said recited Ordinance hat11 ceased and determined: And whereas it is expedient that the

Be it therefore Enacted, by His Excellency the Governor of South Australia, with the advice and conseut of the Legid R t' 1ve Council thereof, That notwithstanding the commencelncnt and taking effect of the Ordinance " To constitute n Municipal Corpora- tion for the City of Adelaide," the "City Commissioners " appoiuted under the recited Ordinance shall have, exercise, and enjoy all tlw powers, authorities, rights, privileges, and protection which, in and by virtue of the said recited Ordhance, " Further to amend and continue the Ordinances authorising the levying of an Assessnler~t

within the City of Adelaide, and to provide for the irnproverrwnt of

the City until Municipal Institutions shall be established," are givcbr~ to, imposed upon, and vested in such " City Commissioners " until the holding of the first Elections under thc said Ordinance " To establish a Municipal Corporation for the City of Adelaide," iu the same manner, to all intents and purposes, as though the said last- mentioned Ordinance had not commenced and tttlcen eficct.
