An Ordinance to amend the Church Lands Leases Ordinance 1924
Short title
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Church Lands Leases (Amendment) Ordinance 1986.1
Principal Ordinance
2. In this Ordinance, “Principal Ordinance” means the Church Lands Leases Ordinance 1924.2
Grant of leases in substitution for surrendered leases
3. Section 3 of the Principal Ordinance is amended—
(a)by omitting sub-section (1) and substituting the following sub-section:
“(1) Where a lease granted under this Ordinance, before or after the commencement of the Church Lands Leases (Amendment) Ordinance 1986, has been surrendered, the Minister may grant, to the body that was the lessee under that lease immediately before it was surrendered, a lease of land for church purposes.”; and
(b)by omitting sub-section (3).
Section 4—repeal
4. Section 4 of the Principal Ordinance is repealed.
Savings
5. Notwithstanding sections 3 and 4—
(a)a lease granted under the Church Lands Leases Ordinance 1924 or that Ordinance as amended at any time before the commencement of this Ordinance, being a lease that was in force immediately before that commencement, shall, subject to the Principal Ordinance as amended by this Ordinance, continue in force and shall have effect according to its tenor; and
(b)sub-sections 3 (1) and (3) of the Principal Ordinance continue to apply in relation to an application for a lease under that Ordinance received by the Minister before that commencement.
Further amendments
6. The Principal Ordinance is amended as set out in the Schedule.

AMENDMENTS OF PRINCIPAL ORDINANCE
Section 2—
Omit all the words after “within”, substitute “the City Area”.
Section 6—
Omit “Ten”, substitute “10”.
Sub-section 7A (1)—
(a) Omit “—1930”.
(b) Omit “fourteen”, substitute “14”.
Sub-section 7A (2)—
(a) Omit “the last succeeding sub-section”, substitute “sub-section (1)”.
(b) Omit “—1930”.
Section 10—
Omit all the words from and including “church” (second occurring) to and including “that”, substitute “church, but”.
