VI. 1896," in certain particulars. THE CHILDREN'S PROTEOTION [ASSENTED TO 13TH DECEMBER, 1945.] AOT AMENDMENT AOT OF 1945. B E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis- lative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows :- 1. (1.) This Act may be cited as " The Children's Short title Protection Act Amendment Act of 1945," and shall be :~~ struction. read as one with *" The Children's Protection Act, 1896 " (as amended by t" The State Ohildren Act of 1911 "), herein collectively referred to as the Principal Act. (2.) The Principal Act and this Act may collectively qollective be cited as "The Children's Protection Acts, 1896 to tItle. 1945." Amendments of the Principal Act. 2. Section one of the Principal Act is amended by Amendment adding thereto the following paragraphs, namely :_ of s. 1. "A person convicted of an offence under this [ fo P r unishment section may, instead of, or in addition to, any punishment ill-treatment to which he is liable, be ordered to enter into his own ~ f~ hli~ ~ ~ J recognisance, with or without securities, in such amount as the Court thinks fit that he shall keep the peace and be of good behaviour for a time not exceeding one year * 60 V. No. 3, 1945. to be fixed by the Court, and also that he shall obey and observe such further terms and conditions as may be directed by the Court or as maybe prescribed by the Governor in Council by regulation made under this Act (which regulation he is hereby authorised to make); such person may be ordered to be imprisoned until such recognisance, with sureties if so directed, is entered into; but so that the imprisonment for not entering into the recognisance shall not extend for a term longer than three months and shall not, together with the aforesaid term of six months, extend for a term longer than nine months. If during the period specified in the recognisance the offender is again convicted of a breach of this Act, or against any other Act or law of the same or similar nature, or contravenes or fails to obey the recognisance or any terms and conditions thereof, such offender shall be guilty of an offence, and the Court before whom the offender is charged or convicted may forfeit the recognisance and in addition may impose a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds, or alternatively, or in default of payment of the said penalty, or in addition thereto, may sentence the offender to imprisonment for any term not exceeding six months."
