Act 2000

An Act to amend the Children and Young People Act 1999

[Notified in ACT Gazette No. 14:  6 April  2000]

The Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory enacts as follows:

1. Name of Act

   This Act is the Children and Young People Amendment Act 2000.

2. Commencement

3. Section 1 and this section commence on the day this Act is notified in the Gazette.

4. The remaining provisions commence on the day Chapter 2 of the Children and Young People Act 1999 commences.

5. Act amended

   This Act amends the Children and Young People Act 1999.

6. Age of criminal responsibility

   Section 71 is amended by omitting from subsections (1) and (2) “8” and substituting “10”.

7. Power to apprehend under-age children

   Section 72 is amended by omitting from subsection (1) “8” and substituting “10”.
