AN ACT to amend the Child Welfare Act, 1947-1955.

BE it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

Short title

and citation 1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Child Welfare

Act Amendment Act (No. 2), 1956.

(2) In this Act the Child Welfare Act, 1947-1955, Act No. 66 of 1947 as amended by Acts Nos. 52 of 1950, 16 of 1952, 73 of 1954 and 45 of 1955,

is referred to as the principal Act.

(3) The principal Act as amended by this Act

may be cited as the Child Welfare Act, 1947-1956.

2. Section thirty-four A of the principal Act is amended.

amended by

(a) adding after the section designation "34A" the subsection designation "(1)";

(b) adding the following subsection:

(2) A child whose age does not exceed sixteen years and is found guilty on summary conviction of an offence punish- able by imprisonment whether the offence is or is not an indictable one or an offence involving grievous bodily harm is not liable to imprisonment for a period exceeding three months.

Provided that this subsection shall not apply where the offence of which the child is found guilty is treason, wilful murder, murder or manslaughter.
