Exemption — public address system
1 Duration
This instrument:
(a) commences on the day after it is registered; and
(b) stops having effect at the end of June 2012.
2 Application
This instrument applies to the AS332L and AS332LI Super Puma helicopters (the aircraft) operated by Lloyd Helicopters Pty Ltd, trading as CHC Helicopters (Australia), Aviation Reference Number 222688 (the operator), when engaged in aerial work or charter operations.
3 Exemption
The operator and the pilot in command of each of the aircraft is exempt from compliance with subregulations 207 (2) and (3) of CAR 1988 to the extent mentioned in Schedule 1.
4 Conditions
The exemption is subject to the conditions mentioned in Schedule 2.
Schedule 1 Extent of exemption
The exemption extends only to the requirement to comply with the directions in paragraph 4.3 of Civil Aviation Order 20.16.3 (relating to the use of approved and serviceable public address system).
Schedule 2 Conditions
1 Subject to clause 2, an exempt aircraft must be fitted with an In Flight Entertainment (IFE) system capable of transmitting public address announcements.
2 If an exempt aircraft is not fitted with a serviceable IFE system, a passenger on that aircraft must wear headphones that are able to receive normal and emergency instructions from the flight crew over the intercom system and he or she must then relay those instructions orally to the other passengers.
3 An IFE system must not remain inoperable for longer than the repair interval specified in the aircraft MEL.
4 Passengers must not be carried except in accordance with clause 1 or 2.
5 Where passengers are carried, passengers must remain seated with their seat belts fastened throughout the flight.
6 Where passengers are carried, every passenger must receive a comprehensive safety briefing before the flight.
