CASA EX55/19 — Glider Towing by Certain Aircraft Exemption 2019

1          Name

This instrument is CASA EX55/19 — Glider Towing by Certain Aircraft Exemption 2019.

2          Duration

This instrument:

(a)   commences on 1 June 2019; and

(b)   is repealed at the end of 31 May 2022.

3          Application

This instrument applies to the operator of any of the following aircraft engaged in private operations (exempted aircraft):

(a)   Piper Pawnee PA25 glider tugs converted to the specifications of glider tugs known as eTugs and in relation to which an experimental certificate has been issued for the purpose mentioned in paragraph 21.191 (i) of CASR following conversion;

(b)   aircraft in relation to which an experimental certificate has been issued for a purpose mentioned in paragraph 21.191 (g), (h), (j) or (k) of CASR and subsequently approved for glider towing by the Gliding Federation of Australia Inc, ARN 217932 (the GFA).

4          Exemption

(1)     The operator of an exempted aircraft is exempt from compliance with subregulation 262AP (1) of CAR to the extent that the subregulation does not authorise the exempted aircraft to be used in glider towing operations.

(2)     The exemption is subject to the condition that the operator of the exempted aircraft must:

(a)   be a member of the GFA; and

(b)   comply with the GFA’s membership rules for glider towing as they exist from time to time.
