Exemption — Airbus 380 runway and taxiway width

1          Duration

This instrument:

(a)   commences on the day after it is registered; and

(b)   stops having effect at the end of 30 September 2008.

2          Application

This instrument applies to:

(a)   the operator of the Sydney (Kingsford Smith) International Airport (the operator); and

(b)   each of the operators of the aerodromes mentioned in Schedule 1 (the alternate operator) when the alternate operator’s aerodrome is used as an alternate aerodrome; and

(c)   landing and taking off in Australia of the Airbus A380-type aeroplane (operations).

3          Exemption

The operator and each of the alternate operators are exempt from the standards set out in paragraphs 6.2.3.1, 6.2.14.2 and 6.3.1.1 of the Manual of Standards Part 139.

4          Conditions

     The exemption is subject to the conditions mentioned in Schedule 2.

Schedule 1          Aerodromes

1       Adelaide International Airport

2       Brisbane International Airport

3       Melbourne International Airport

Schedule 2          Conditions

1     Subject to clause 2, operations must be conducted at Sydney (Kingsford Smith) International Airport.

2     Each of the aerodromes mentioned in Schedule 1 may only be used as alternate aerodromes for the operations.

3     Operations at the Sydney (Kingsford Smith) International Airport and the alternate aerodromes may only take place on a runway that is at least 45 metres wide.

4     Operations at Sydney (Kingsford Smith) International Airport must only take place on a runway that has a 7.5 metre wide area on each side of the runway shoulders that:

(a)   provides blast protection; and

(b)   prevents engine ingestion; and

(c)   supports ground service vehicles.

5       Operations at Sydney (Kingsford Smith) International Airport and each of the alternate aerodromes must only take place on a code letter E 23 metre wide taxiway.

6     For operations at each of the alternate aerodromes, the surface adjacent to the runway and runway shoulders must be regularly inspected for loose stones and debris.

7       For each of the alternate aerodromes, the alternate operator must ensure that the runway shoulders and runway are cleared of any loose stones and debris after operations.
