Exemption — Airservices Australia aerodrome rescue and fire fighting service (ARFFS)

1          Duration

                 This instrument:

(a)   commences on the day after registration; and

(b)   stops having effect at the end of 31 August 2015.

2          Interpretation

                 In this instrument, the Manual of Standards (the MOS) Part 139H is referred to as the MOS.

3          Approval

I exempt Airservices Australia, and staff of its ARFFS, from compliance with subregulations 139.845 (2) and (3) of CASR 1998, to the extent mentioned in:

(a)   paragraph 18.1.1.1 of the MOS, in respect of subparagraph 18.1.1.2 (e); and

(b)   paragraph 20.1.3.13 of the MOS, in respect of the second subparagraph (a).

4          Conditions

                 This exemption is subject to the conditions in Schedule 1.

Schedule 1          Conditions

        1     A member of the ARFFS staff who does not hold a full topography rating for an aerodrome may be employed in operational service on an aerodrome if he or she holds a limited topography rating issued by the ARFFS for that aerodrome, being a rating indicating a limited level of knowledge of the aerodrome topography.

        2     A member of the ARFFS staff to whom clause 1 applies must, while responding to an incident, be accompanied by the holder of a full topography rating for the aerodrome.

        3     A member of the ARFFS staff employed in operational service on an aerodrome under this exemption:

(a)   must be so employed only for emergency temporary relief to maintain the appropriate category level of service for the aerodrome; and

(b)   must not, under any circumstances, be the driver of a fire vehicle during an emergency response.
