Exemption — from demonstrating competence using GLS approach in B737NG aircraft (Virgin Australia)
1 Duration
This instrument:
(a) commences on the day of registration; and
(b) expires at the end of July 2018, as if it had been repealed by another instrument.
2 Definition
In this instrument:
GLS means Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) landing system.
3 Application
This instrument applies to the pilot of a B737NG aircraft (B737NG pilot) operated by Virgin Australia Airlines Pty Ltd, Aviation Reference Number 567591 (the operator).
4 Exemption
The B737NG pilot is exempt from compliance with paragraph 61.680 (5) (b) of CASR 1998 in relation to the GLS approach procedure.
Note Paragraph 61.680 (5) (b) of CASR 1998 provides that the holder of an instrument rating is authorised to conduct an instrument approach operation in an aircraft using a procedure of a particular kind (such as GLS) only if the holder has demonstrated his or her competence, to a person mentioned in subregulation 61.680 (6), in the conduct of instrument approach operations using the procedure.
5 Conditions
The exemption is subject to the conditions mentioned in Schedule 1.
Schedule 1 Conditions
1 A B737NG pilot may only take advantage of this instrument if the B737NG pilot has successfully:
(a) completed the GLS course conducted by the operator; and
(b) conducted a GLS approach in visual meteorological conditions.
2 The operator must include a copy of this instrument in the operator’s operations manual.
