Exemption — Mode S transponder equipment

1          Duration

                 This instrument:

(a)   commences on 19 August 2016; and

(b)   is repealed at the end of 20 August 2016.

2          Application

                 This instrument applies to the operator of an aircraft that:

(a)   is operated at the Brisbane aerodrome on 19 and 20 August 2016 for the purpose of participating in the Aviation Careers Expo held at the airport on those days; and

(b)   does not meet the requirements relating to Mode S transponder equipment  mentioned in paragraph 9E.4 of Civil Aviation Order 20.18(CAO 20.18), as in force from time to time.

3          Exemption and conditions

                 The operator of the aircraft is exempt from compliance with paragraph 9E.4 of CAO 20.18, subject to the following conditions:

(a)   the operator must ensure that the aircraft is equipped with a transponder that meets the requirements for operation in the airspace over Brisbane aerodrome;

(b)   the operator must ensure that item 18 of the flight plan seeking clearance for the aircraft during the operations includes the text:

        “RMK/CASA MODE S EXEMPT”.
