Exemption — from carriage of life rafts

1          Duration

          This instrument:

(a)   commences on the day after it is registered; and

(b)   stops having effect at the end of 28 February 2009.

2          Application

(1)     This instrument applies to DHC-8 aircraft operated by Queensland Regional Airlines Pty Ltd (Aviation Reference Number 584560) in an operation mentioned in subsection (2).

(2)     The operations are those between:

(a)   Cairns and — Port Moresby or Nadzab (Lae) in Papua New Guinea; and

(b)   Townsville and — Port Moresby or Nadzab (Lae) in Papua New Guinea; and

(c)   Cairns and — Gove, Groote Eylant or Darwin; and

(d)   Weipa and — Gove, Groote Eylant or Darwin; and

(e)   Bamaga and — Gove, Groote Eylant or Darwin; and

(f)    Horn Island and — Gove, Groote Eylant or Darwin.

3          Exemption

Each aircraft and each pilot is exempt from compliance with the directions under subregulation 252 (1) of CAR 1988 to the extent mentioned in Schedule 1.

4          Condition

          The exemption is subject to the condition in Schedule 2.

Schedule 1          Extent of exemption

           The requirement to comply with paragraph 5.2.1 of Civil Aviation Order 20.11 for the carriage of life rafts.

Schedule 2          Condition

           The aircraft must be within the lesser of:

(a)    60 minutes at single engine cruising speed; or

(b)    200 nautical miles;

           from an adequate aerodrome as defined in Civil Aviation Order 82.0.
