Designation of airspace for broadcast requirements — aerodrome with certified air/ground radio services

1          Commencement

This instrument commences on 1 December 2008.

2          Designation of broadcast areas

The area of airspace within the horizontal and vertical limits defined for the area (a designated area) in Schedule 1 is designated as an area in which broadcast requirements apply.

3          Direction of broadcast requirements

The broadcast requirements mentioned in Schedule 2 apply in the designated area.

4          Direction of radio frequencies

     Broadcasts in the designated area must be made on the radio frequency mentioned in Schedule 3 for the area.

Schedule 2          Broadcast requirements for designated areas

1          Aircraft flying through a designated area without landing

The pilot in command of an aircraft intending to fly through the designated area without landing must, immediately after the aircraft enters the designated area, make a broadcast that includes the following information:

(a)   the name of the aerodrome followed by”traffic”;

(b)   the aircraft’s type;

(c)   the aircraft’s callsign;

(d)   the position of the aircraft and the pilot’s intentions;

(e)   the name of the aerodrome.

2          Aircraft intending to land at an aerodrome in a designated area

     The pilot in command of an aircraft intending to land at the aerodrome in the designated area, must:

(a)   immediately after the aircraft enters the area, make a broadcast that includes the following information:

(i)  the name of the aerodrome followed by “traffic”;

(ii)  the aircraft’s type and callsign;

(iii)  the position of the aircraft and the pilot’s intentions;

(iv)  the name of the aerodrome; and

(b)   if and when the aircraft joins the circuit, make a broadcast that consists of:

(i)  the name of the aerodrome followed by “traffic”; and

(ii)  the aircraft’s type and callsign; and

(iv)  the segment in which the aircraft is joining the circuit and the pilot’s intentions; and

(iv)  the name of the aerodrome; and

(c)   if the pilot intends to make a straight in approach to the landing runway, make a prior broadcast of that intention.

3          Aircraft taking off from the aerodrome in the designated area

     The pilot in command of an aircraft who is taxiing for take-off from the aerodrome must:

(a)   when starting to taxi, make a broadcast that includes the following information:

(i)  the name of the aerodrome followed by “traffic”;

(ii)  the aircraft’s type and callsign;

(iii)  if the proposed flight is to be conducted under the I.F.R. — a statement to that effect;

(iv)  either:

(A)    the proposed flight’s intended destination; or

(B)    the direction in which the pilot intends to fly from the aerodrome;

(v)  the runway proposed to be used for take-off;

(vi)  the name of the aerodrome; and

(b)   immediately before entering the runway to be used for take-off, make a broadcast that consists of:

(i)  the name of the aerodrome followed by “traffic”; and

(ii)  the aircraft’s callsign and type; and

(iii)  the runway identifier; and

(iv)  a statement that the aircraft is entering the runway.
