DETERMINATION OF METEOROLOGICAL MINIMA
(1) The standard meteorological minima for aircraft taking off are as set out in the following tables:
TABLE 1
MINIMA FOR AEROPLANES TAKING OFF
| Aeroplanes | Ceiling | Visibility |
| Multi-engined aeroplanes: (a) two pilot operated; or (b) single pilot operated multi-engine turbo-jets or (operative) auto-feather equipped. IFR aeroplanes above 5,700 kg. With runway edge lighting (light spacing not more than 60 metres) and either runway centreline lighting or centreline marking. | 0 0 | 800 metres 500 metres |
| Multi-engined aeroplanes: (a) two pilot operated; or (b) single pilot operated turbo-jets or (operative) auto-feather equipped. IFR aeroplanes not above 5,700 kg, capable of a gross climb gradient of at least 1.9% under ambient conditions with the loss of the most critical engine With runway edge lighting (light spacing not more than 60 metres) and either runway centreline lighting or centreline marking. | 0 0 | 800 metres 500 metres |
| All other IFR aeroplanes | 300 ft | 2,000 metres |
TABLE 2
MINIMA FOR MULTI-ENGINE HELICOPTERS TAKING OFF
| Helicopters | Cloud/ceiling | RVR/Vis |
| Multi-engined helicopters when operated in accordance with PC1/PC2 procedures When operated from a runway with edge lighting at not more than 60m light spacing and either runway centreline lighting or centreline marking. | Clear of cloud until attaining Vyse or Vmin IMC (whichever is the greater) | 800 metres 500 metres |
| All other IFR helicopters | 500 ft | 800 metres |
(2) The meteorological minima for aircraft landing are:
(a) for aerodromes with an approved instrument approach procedure — the minima specified in the instrument approach chart for carrying out that procedure, being a decision height of not less than 200 feet and visibility of not less than 800 metres; or
(b) for other aerodromes:
(i) in the case of day IFR — visual approach requirements; and
(ii) in the case of night IFR — VMC from the lowest safe altitude within 3 nautical miles.
(3) The meteorological minima for aircraft taking off or landing are subject to specific minima set out in aerodrome charts issued for individual aerodromes.
