Regulations under the Careless Use of Fire

Ordinance 1916.

T ) Y virtue of the provisions of the Careless Use of Fire Ordinance, J j 1916, I , Frederick William Bamford, Minister of State for Home rand Territories, hereby make the following Regulations.

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Careless Use of Fire jEegulations 1917.

2. The occupier of any land in the Territory may, except during the I months of November, December, January and February inclusive, burn any straw, stubble, grass, or herbage, or ignite any wood or other inflam- !mable material on his land after he has, around that straw, stubble, grass, herbage, wood, or other inflammable material, cleared of inflam- jmable substance a space of land not less than one hundred and thirty-two jfeet in breadth: Provided that he has given to the occupiers of all land contiguous to the land on which the straw, stubble, grass, or herbage is intended to be burnt, or wood or other inflammable material is intended jto be ignited, at least twenty-four hours' notice in writing of his j intention to so burn or ignite.

3. The occupier of any grass lands in the Territory may, except (during the months of November, December, January and February (inclusive, between the hours of five o'clock in the afternoon and four • 0 clock in the forenoon, burn off any grass or herbage from grass

jmiids in his occupation: Provided that he has given the occupiers of tall lands contiguous to the land on which he intends to burn off the gi'asjpor herbage at least twenty-four hours' notice in writing of his intention to so burn off.
