Canberra Sewerage and Water Supply Regulations2 (Amendment)

I, GARY FRANCIS PUNCH, the Minister of State for the Arts and Territories, pursuant to section 8 of the Interpretation Ordinance 1967, hereby make the following Regulations under the Building and Services Ordinance 1924.

Principal Regulations

1.  In these Regulations, “Principal Regulations” means the Canberra Sewerage and Water Supply Regulations.

Commencement

2.  These Regulations shall come into operation on 1 July 1988.

Interpretation

3.  Regulation 4 of the Principal Regulations is amended by inserting after the definition of “Sewer” in subregulation (1) the following definition:

“ ‘sprinkler system’ means a system of pipes and other equipment installed in a building, being pipes containing valves that open automatically at certain temperatures, for use in the extinguishing of fires;”.

Insertion

4.  Before regulation 11 of the Principal Regulations the following regulation is inserted in Part II:

Sprinkler fitting

“10.  A person shall not install or fit a sprinkler system or any part of a sprinkler system unless the person holds a water supply plumber’s licence, a journeyman plumber’s licence or a sprinkler fitter’s licence and the Engineer has granted to that person or to his or her employer a plumbing permit in respect of the work.

Penalty:  $500.”.

Minor plumbing or drainage permit—suspension, cancellation etc.

5.  Regulation 15AB of the Principal Regulations is amended—

(a)by omitting from subregulation (3) “fee paid under sub-regulation 15 (5)” and substituting “determined fee paid”; and

(b)by omitting from subregulation (4) “fee paid under sub-regulation 15 (5)” and substituting “determined fee paid”.
