AN ACT to amend sections twenty-five, twenty-five B, thirty-eight and sixty-seven of the Bush Fires Act, 1954-1969.

BE it enacted by the Queen's Most ExcellentMajesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

(b) If it appears to the Board that the standard of efficiency of a local authority in fire prevention and control justifies the Board doing so, the Board, by notice published in the Government Gazette-

(i)  may approve the local authority as one to which this subsection applies and may stipulate the number of senior bush fire control officers who may be appointed to the office of fire weather officer; and

(ii) may from time to time cancel or vary any previous approval given under this paragraph.

(c) An approved local authority may appoint to the office of fire weather officer the number of senior bush fire control officers that the Board has stipulated in the notice referred to in paragraph (b) of this subsection including any variation of the notice under subparagraph (ii) of that paragraph and may appoint a person to act as deputy to each person so appointed in that office whilst it is vacant or whilst the occupant is absent or unable to act

in the discharge of the duties of the office, but where more than one senior bush fire control officer is appointed to the office of fire weather officer, the local authority shall define a part of its district in which each fire weather officer shall have the exclusive right to exercise the power conferred by paragraph (h) of this sub- section.

(d) The local authority shall give notice of an appointment made under paragraph (c) of this subsection to the Board and cause notice of the appointment to be published at least once in a newspaper circulating in its district and the Board shall cause notice of the appointment to be published once in the Government Gazette. .

Amendment

5. Subsection (2) of section 67 of the principal Act is amended by deleting the passage "consist of not more than twelve nor less than six members, and shall", in lines two and three.
