1 . This Act may be cited as the "Burrinjuck Dam
2 . This Act shall be deemed to have commenced on the first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and thirty-seven.
3 . (1) (a) The carrying out of the work described in the Schedule to this Act is hereby sanctioned.
(b) The said work shall be deemed to be an authorised work within the meaning of the Public Works Act, 1912, as amended by subsequent Acts.
(c) The Water Conservation and Irrigation Commission is empowered to carry out the said work, and shall be the constructing authority for the same within the meaning of the said Act as so amended, and shall enter into such contracts and take all such necessary steps for the proper execution thereof as such authority may think proper.
(d) The provisions of the Public Works Act, 1912, as amended by subsequent Acts, sections thirty- four, thirty-five, thirty-six and thirty-seven excepted, shall apply to and in respect of the said work.
(2) Without prejudice to the generality of subsec tion one of this section the provisions of section thirty- eight of the Public Works Act, 1912, as amended by sub sequent Acts, shall apply to and in respect of any contracts referred to in paragraph (c) of subsection one of this section.
4 . The cost of carrying out the said work is estimated
at one million eight hundred and fifty thousand pounds,and such estimated cost shall not, under any circum
stances, be exceeded by more than ten per centum. SCHEDULE S C H E D U L E .
The carrying out of the following work in connection with the dam
across the Murrumbidgee River known as the Burrinjuck Dam, viz.:—
(1) SPILLWAYS.
The capacity of the present discharge arrangements of the dam to be increased by providing two gate openings on the northern side and one gate opening on the southern side of the main dam, such openings to be provided with tilting gates. The present spillway channels to be deepened and widened and provided with new side walls. The crest of the present spillway weirs to. be raised by 5 feet and the concrete in the existing walls to be given surface treatment to minimize percolation of water.
( 2 ) "WATERTIGHT CUT-OFF AND DRAINAGE.
A watertight cut-off, consisting of an asphalt diaphragm, to be placed within the dam from the foundation up to such level as may be decided and on the upstream face above this elevation, the two parts being connected horizontally. Access to the interior of the dam to be obtained by adits on the downstream face connecting to hori zontal galleries in the dam proper. A drainage gallery in the rock below the foundation of the dam and along its periphery to be pro vided, together with such vertical shafts as are necessary.
(3) STABILISATION.
Stabilisation of the main dam to be provided for by adding concrete to. the back and top thereof.
( 4 ) OUTLETS.
The sluice outlets situated in the pier at the southern extremity of the dam to be removed and the sluice rebuilt in the southern spillway wall, the shafts to other sluices and the sluice outlets to be lined with steel plates.
(5) MODIFICATIONS.
