An Act to amend the Building Act 1972

The Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory enacts as follows:
Name of Act
This Act is the Building Amendment Act 2001.
Commencement
This Act commences on 1 July 2001.
Act amended
This Act amends the Building Act 1972.
Interpretation
Section 5 (1), definition of owner, paragraph (d)after
occupier
insert
; or
Section 5 (1), definition of owner, new paragraphs (e) and (f)
insert
(e)if the Territory carries out or proposes to carry out building work on the land—the Territory; or
(f)if the Commonwealth carries out or proposes to carry out building work on the land—the Commonwealth.
Section 6A

6A Application of Act to the Territory
This Act, other than section 40A (Compliance with building code), does not bind the Territory in relation to building work if the Minister certifies that a contract in relation to the work was entered into before 1 July 2001.
This section expires on 1 July 2004.
