W H E R E A S in accordance with the provisions of the Public

Works Act, 1900, the Legislative Assembly did by resolution declare that it was expedient to carry out a certain work, namely, the construction of a scheme of Water Supply from Umberumberka Creek for the city and district of Broken H i l l : And whereas, on the passing of the said resolution, a statutory duty was by the said Act imposed on the Secretary for Public Works to introduce a Bill into the said Assembly to sanction the carrying out of the said work: And whereas it is desirable to make provision for the supply of water from the said work : Be it therefore enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows :—

1. This Act may be cited as the "Broken Hill (Umberumberka Creek) Water Supply Act, 1910."

2. The carrying out of the said work (more particularly described in the Schedule to this Act) is hereby sanctioned; and the Minister for Public Works, cr the member of the Executive Council for the time being performing the duties of the Minister, is hereby authorised to undertake and carry out the said work, subject to the provisions of this Act, and for that purpose shall be, and shall have the powers and duties of a Constructing Authority within the meaning of the Public Works Act, 1900.

4. The cost of carrying out the said work, estimated at three hundred and fifty-nine thousand pounds (which excludes the cost of resumption), shall be defrayed from such loan votes as are now or may hereafter be applicable to that purpose, or from appropriations from the Public Works Bund, or partly from such votes and partly from such appropriations, and shall not under any circumstances exceed the estimated cost by more than ten per centum. 3. The plan of the said works is the plan marked " A," signed by the Minister, and countersigned by the Chief Engineer for Harbours and Water Supply, and deposited in the public office of the said Secretary.

S C H E D U L E .

T H E scheme comprises :—

(1) A storage dam on Umberumberka Creek anil within the holding of Mundi Mundi. The dam will be constructed of concrete or cyclopean rubble masonry with a crest of about 680 feet long and liaving a top water level of It. L £3!l. The he ight of crest above the creek will be 8-1 feet. The dam will have a ca tchment area of 150 square miles, and includes the Uniberumberka , I Mack Hil l , and Lake's Grave Creeks. The capacity of the storage, when tilled, is es t imated to be 2,903 million gallons of water, the whole being s i tuated within the parishes of Boniangaldy and Uniberumberka.

(2) Out le t works below the dam consist of a pump well, engine and boiler house, duplicate pumping machinery, a short suction pipe, and about 2 miles of steel rising main.
(3) A concrete service reservoir with reinforced concrete roof, capacity 2 million

gallons.

(4) Gravi ta t ion main into Broken Hill, having a length of about 16-8 miles.

(5) Ret icula t ion pipes within the municipal area and also to the mines.

(d)

A tramway from near Silverton to the site of dam. length about 6 miles, and connecting with the Silverton Traniway Company's system.

(7) The resumption of land for the service reservoir and the submerged area a t the

storage dam. Also easements for the rising and gravi ta t ion mains.

(8) Offices, engineer 's cottage, and telephone line.
