1Name of Regulations

These Regulations are the Broadcasting Services (Digital Television Standards) Amendment Regulations 2002 (No. 1).

2Commencement

These Regulations commence on 1 January 2003.

3Amendment of Broadcasting Services (Digital Television Standards) Regulations 2000

Schedule 1 amends the Broadcasting Services (Digital Television Standards) Regulations 2000.

[1]Schedule 1, after clause 2

insert

2APhase-in day

For this Schedule, the phase-in day, for a licensee who is required to transmit a version of a commercial television broadcasting service in SDTV digital mode in an area, is the later of:

  1. (a)

    30 June 2003; and

  2. (b)

    the day 2 years after the day on which the licensee is required to begin such a transmission.

substitute

  1. (b)

    in any event, not later than the phase-in day.

omit

After the end of the 2-year period that is mentioned in paragraph 3 (b), a licensee

After the phase-in day for a licensee mentioned in clause 2A, the licensee

For this Schedule, the phase-in day, for a national broadcaster who is required to transmit a version of a national television broadcasting service in SDTV digital mode in a coverage area, is the later of:

  1. (a)

    30 June 2003; and

  2. (b)

    the day 2 years after the day on which the broadcaster is required to begin such a transmission.
