AN ORDINANCE

To amend the Betting {Totalizator Agency) Ordinance 1964-1972.

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, hereby make the following Ordinance under

the Seat of Government {Administration) Act 1910-1972.

BETTING (TOTALIZATOR AGENCY) ORDINANCE 1973

1. (1) This Ordinance may be cited as the Betting {Totalizator

Agency) Ordinance 1973.*

(2) The Betting {Totalizator Agency) Ordinance 1964-1972f is

in this Ordinance referred to as the Principal Ordinance.

(3) The Principal Ordinance, as amended by this Ordinance, may

be cited as the Betting {Totalizator Agency) Ordinance 1964-1973.

2. (1) This section and sections 1 and 5 shall come into operation

on the date on which this Ordinance is notified in the Gazette.

(2) Sections 3 and 4 shall come into operation on 1st September,

1973.

3. Section 7 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting

sub-sections (1) and (2) and substituting the following sub-sections:—

" (1 ) The Board shall consist of five members appointed, as

occasion requires, by the Minister.
" (2) Subject to this Ordinance, a member of the Board holds office for such period, not exceeding three years, as is specified in the instrument of his appointment.".

4. Section 9 of the Principal Ordinance is repealed.

5. (1) Notwithstanding section 2, the Minister may, at any time before 1st September, 1973, make appointments under section 7 of the Principal Ordinance as amended by this Ordinance as if section 3 of this Ordinance had come into operation on the date referred to in

sub-section 2 ( 1 ) .

(2) An appointment made in pursuance of sub-section (1) shall

take effect on 1st September, 1973.
