Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (Codes of Conduct) By-laws
By-laws under the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education Act
These By-laws may be cited as the
(1) The Council may, by resolution at a meeting, make codes of conduct in relation to the activities and conduct of:
(a) members of the Council;
(b) staff of the Institute; and
(c) students of the Institute.
(2) The Director must sign a code of conduct before it is published.
A code of conduct or a provision of a code of conduct may be expressed to have operation in respect of:
(a) all campuses and areas of the Institute; or
(b) only some of the campuses or areas of the Institute.
A code of conduct is published by:
(a) posting in electronic form on the electronic Bulletin Board of the Institute a notice of the making of the code; and
(b) posting copies of the code on sufficient official notice boards that the code is reasonably accessible to persons affected by the provisions of the code.
(1) A notice of the making of a code of conduct is to specify the place or places from where a copy of the code may be obtained by a person who is affected by the provisions of the code.
(2) A code of conduct does not bind the persons who are affected by the provisions of the code until the code is published in accordance with these By-laws.
(1) The Council may suspend the operation of a code of conduct or a provision of the code of conduct by publishing a notice of the suspension in the same manner as provided for the publishing of a code.
(2) The suspension of operation of a code or a provision of a code may be expressed to be limited to a specified campus or area or specified campuses or areas of the Institute.
A code of conduct may make provision in relation to:
(a) requirements of the Institute in respect of the conduct of members, staff and students;
(b) obligations of members, staff and students in their relationships to each other and to the Institute; and
(c) the meaning of misconduct and breach of discipline.
