An Act to sanction the construction of a dam
across the Murrumbidgee River at Barren
Jack, a movable diversion weir across the
Murrumbidgee River about nineteen miles in a direct line above Narrandera, a main canal from near the diversion weir, a series of branch and subsidiary distributing and drainage channels, together with other works
connected therewith ; and for purposes con
sequent thereon or incidental thereto. [19th
December, 1906.]
WHEREAS in accordance with the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1900, the Legislat ive Assembly did, by resolution, declare that it was expedient to carry out a certain work, namely, the construction of a dam across the Murrumbidgee L ive r at Barren J a c k , in the parishes of West Goodradigee and Childowla, in the counties of Puccleuch and Harden, respectively ; a movable diversion weir across the Murrumbidiree River about nineteen miles in a direct l ine above Narrandera ; the construction of a main canal from near the diversion weir to a point about ten miles north-easterly from the v i l lage of
Gunbar; a series of main and subsidiary distributing channels, together with other works connected therewith : And whereas on the passing of the said resolution a statutory duty was by the said Act imposed on the Secretary for Public Works to introduce a Bi l l into the said Assembly to sanction the carrying out of the said work : Be it there- fore enacted by the King 's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis la t ive Council and Legislat ive Assembly of New South Wales in Parl iament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows :—
1. This Act may be cited as the '•' Barren J a c k Dam and Murrumbidgee Canals Construction Act, 1900."
2. The carrying out of the said work (more part icular ly described in the Schedule to this Act) is hereby sanctioned, and the Secretary for Publ ic Works, or the member of the Executive Council for the t ime being performing the duties of the said Secretary, is

hereby authorised to undertake and carry out the said work, subject to the provisions of this Act, and for that purpose shall be and shall have the powers and duties of a Constructing Authori ty wi thin the meaning of the Publ ic Works Act, 1900.
3 . The plan of the said work is the plan marked " A , " signed
by the Secretary for Publ ic Works, and countersigned by the Chief Engineer for Rivers , Wate r Supply, and Drainage, and deposited in the public office of the said Secretary.
4 . The cost of the said work, including cost of resumption,
estimated at one million five hundred and seventy-four thousand and eight pounds, may be defrayed from the Public Works Eund or from such loan votes as arc now or may hereafter be applicable for that purpose or par t ly from the said fund and part ly from such votes.
S C H E D U L E
1. The construction of a rubble concrete darn across the Murrumbidgee River at
Barren Jack , in the parishes of W e s t Coodradigbee and Childowla, in the counties of
Buceleuch and Harden, to retain a supply of water to a reduced top-water level of one
thousand one hundred and eighty feet above high-water mark, Sydney, together with by-washes, sluices, valves, and all other necessary works for the storage and delivery of water.
2. The construction of a diversion weir across the Murrumbidgee River about
nineteen miles in a direct line above Narrandera, with movable wickets, sluices, and
other works necessary for the diversion of a supply of water.
3. The construction of a main canal from the diversion weir, with branch and subsidiary distributing and drainage channels to Gunbar and Hay, with regulators, crossings, escapes, sluices, pipes, and other works necessary for the supply and distribution of water for irrigation, stock, and domestic purposes.
The whole to be subject to such variations and modifications as may be considered
desirable by the Constructing Authori ty .
