An Act to enable banks and branch banks to be closed on cer tain afternoons ; to provide tha t such afternoons shall not be bank ing or bus iness hours for t he purpose of any business at such banks and b r a n c h e s ; and to amend t he Bills of E x c h a n g e Act, 1887.

| BE it enacted by the Queen 's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with | Assembly of New South Wales in Par l i ament assembled, and by the the advice and consent of the Legislat ive Council and Legislat ive au thor i ty of the same, as follows:— |
1. This Act may be cited as the " Bank Half-holiday Act, 1900." 2. (1) Any bank, on obtaining the permission in wri t ing of the
Colonial Treasure r , and on giving the public notice hereinaf ter men tioned, may close the bank, or any branch of the bank, to business on any day after noon. Public notice of such closing shall be given by the bank by adver t i sement published between the th i rd and the four teenth day before the day of such closing in at least two issues of some newspaper published and circulat ing in the neighbourhood of any bank or branch proposed to be so closed.

(2) On any day on which it is lawful under this Act to close any bank or branch as aforesaid, no t ime after noon shall in respect of any business a t such bank or branch be a reasonable hour within the meaning of the Bills of Exchange Act, 1887, or shall be within banking or business hours within any law, practice, or custom re la t ing to banks
