AUSTUDY/ABSTUDY Supplement Regulations 2(Amendment)

I, The Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, make the following Regulations under the Student Assistance Act 1973.

1.   Commencement

1.1   These Regulations commence on 1 January 1994.

2.   Amendment

2.1   The AUSTUDY/ABSTUDY Supplement Regulations are amended as set out in these Regulations.

3.   Regulation 9 (Maximum amount of financial supplement for category 1 students)

3.1   Paragraph 9 (1) (a):

Omit the paragraph, substitute:

• “(a)

  $6,000; or”.

3.2   Subregulation 9 (4):

Omit “$4,000”, substitute “$6,000”.

3.3   Add at the end:

“(5)

In this regulation, a reference to an amount that is:

• (a)

  the maximum amount of financial supplement to which a category 1 student is eligible; and

• (b)

  an amount of dollars and cents;

is a reference to that amount rounded up to the nearest whole dollar.”.

4.   Regulation 10 (Maximum amount of financial supplement for category 2 students not in short courses)

4.1   Add at the end:

“(2)

In this regulation, a reference to an amount that is:

• (a)

  the maximum amount of financial supplement to which a category 2 student is eligible; and

• (b)

  an amount of dollars and cents;

is a reference to that amount rounded up to the nearest whole dollar.”.

5.   Regulation 11 (Maximum amount of financial supplement for category 2 students in short courses)

5.1   Add at the end:

“(2)

In this regulation, a reference to an amount that is:

• (a)

  the maximum amount of financial supplement to which a category 2 student is eligible; and

• (b)

  an amount of dollars and cents;

is a reference to that amount rounded up to the nearest whole dollar.”.

6.   Regulation 16 (Minimum amount of repayment that can be made)

6.1   Omit the regulation.
